VON DER SESAMSTRASSE ZUR PRODUZENTENLEGENDE: NILE ROGERS WURDE 70
Jens-Uwe BerndtTeilen
September 70 Jahre alt.
Nile Rogers' career actually began in 1970 as a musician on the Sesame Street stage show. There he met Bernard Edwards, with whom he soon founded the Big Apple Band, which became Chic in 1977 because of the similarity in name to an already existing group. Actually, their repertoire initially consisted of Funk Rock with a wide variety of influences before "Dance, Dance, Dance" became a hit in 1977 (USA #6, UK #6). After that Rogers and Edwards switched to Disco and became one of the most important and best genre representatives in the final phase of this wave. Chic had number one singles in the States with "Le Freak" (1978) and "Good Times" (1979). Producer jobs followed for Sister Sledge, Debbie Harry and Diana Ross, among others, as well as David Bowie, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Thompson Twins and many others after Chic disbanded in 1983. In the nineties he worked with Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan, among others, wrote soundtracks, made a brief comeback in 1990 with Chic, which he re-founded in 1996 and which still exists today. Rogers is still a busy man because of his unbelievable musical abilities. Thus, he wrote songs for Daft Punk, which he also produced, worked with Keith Urban and Beyonce, performed with Duran Duran, for whom he had done producer jobs in the eighties, etc. Nile Rogers will be 70 years old on September 19.
