Schon die erste Soul-Single “I‘m So Lonesome I Could Cry“ erreichte dort Rang 8 (1966). Es folgten “Hooked On A Feeling“ (#5, 1968), “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head“ (#1, 1969), “I Just Can‘t Help Believing“ (#9, 1970), “(Hey Won‘t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song“ (#1, 1975). Ab den Achtzigern war er vor allem in den Country-Charts zu finden. Thomas starb am Sonnabend an den Folgen einer Lungenkrebserkrankung.
