- May 17, 2022
The then 17-year-old Henry Fredericks is said to have performed as Taj Mahal for the first time in 1959. Under this name, the New York-born singer, guitarist and piano player became a true Blues giant. In 1965 he founded Rising Sons with Ry Cooder, and in 1968 Taj Mahal started his solo career. He worked with numerous greats of the Rock business - including The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Willie Nelson - was often a guest musician with others, just as often got well-known names on his studio productions. In the eighties he founded the Hula Blues Band and is still active today. Musically, the artist moved in the Blues, Reggae, Jazz and World Music. On May 17, Taj Mahal will be 80 years old.
