THE BAND - EINE DER BESTEN

THE BAND - EINE DER BESTEN

(English below)
Enthalten: “The Night They Drove All Dixie Down“!!

One of the best formations that ever existed: The Band. Known as Bob Dylan's backing band, the Canadians took on a life of their own in 1968 with the release of their debut MUSIC FROM BIG PINK, leading those who listened to them closely to suspect that they might not have been a backing band after all, but rather that they were using Dylan as a frontman. The Band were the pioneers of that style, which today is called Americana for simplification. It brings together all those genres that originated in America or at least gained the greatest popularity there: Country Rock, Folk Rock, Blues, Jazz. On the photo: THE BAND (1969), which sounds so genuine and earthy, as if it had been recorded live in a ride. Included: "The Night They Drove All Dixie Down"!!! STAGE FRIGHT (1970) is at least as wonderful (the title song alone is a minor miracle). ROCK OF AGES (1972) is a live double album that combines songs from the first four LPs (before that there was CAHOOTS, 1971). Probably it was the best concert document released to date. MOONDOG MATINEE (1973) is noteworthy for its diversity, but is so overshadowed by the live album BEFORE THE FLOOD (1974) that it falls flat. The double vinyl with Bob Dylan is a mass. However, the strongest songs are those performed without the singing poet. There is no better version of "I Shall Be Released" than The Band's on this album. NORTHERN LIGHTS - SOUTHERN CROSS (1975) is as radiant a pearl as ISLANDS two years later: Can it be more enchanting than with "Christmas Must Be Tonight"? With THE LAST WALTZ (1978) - everyone came to say goodbye to a musical era and to The Band - the Canadians created a monument to themselves and two decades of music history. At the end, two live documents in new releases. Like everything from The Band - essential!
