TALENT OHNE DURCHBRUCH: RACHEL SWEET WURDE 60
Jens-Uwe BerndtTeilen
As a teenager, Rachel Sweet tried her hand at Country, but made her LP debut as a Rock/Pop singer in the U.K. on Stiff (1978, FOOL AROUND). A year later, the album was also released in the States and even made it briefly into the Top 100 there. Sweet was a talented singer and certainly had strong songs in her repertoire, but never really got on the road to success. She had a first mini-hit with the soulful number "B-A-B-Y" (UK #35), which already revealed strong 60s influences. There was a complete return in 1981 with the double track "Then He Kissed Me - Be My Baby" (G #24), which revived the early sixties in the video presentation. Rachel Sweet had her most successful single that same year in a duet with Rex Smith with "Everlasting Love" (USA #32). The singer went on to make records, become an actress, TV host and is a real diamond to a devoted fan base. On July 28 Rachel Sweet turns 60 years old.
