Zwar startete Robert Gordon seine musikalische Karriere bereits 1964 bei den Confidentials, entschied sich mit 20 aber erst einmal für ein bürgerliches Leben. Er heiratete, diente in der Nationalgarde und eröffnete ein eigenes Bekleidungsgeschäfts. Nach seiner Scheidung zog es ihn 1975 wieder stärker zur Musik, er wurde Mitglied der Punk-Band Tuff Darts und spielte neben Debbie Harry in einem Punk-Underground-Film mit. Für seine erste LP konnte Gordon Gitarrenlegende Link Wray gewinnen, der fand, dass der Sänger "nach dem frühen Elvis" klang. Auf der zweiten Platte - FRESH FISH SPECIAL - war 1978 wieder Link Wray zu hören - ebenso die original Jordanaires und Bruce Springsteen, der in einem von ihm komponierten Song Keyboards spielte. Robert Gordon wurde mit seinen weiteren Platten zu einem der wichtigsten Namen mit grassierenden Rockabilly-Revival. Ab Mitte der 80s wurde es stiller um den Musiker, da er mit Alkohol- und Drogen-Problemen zu kämpfen hatte. Er kehrte aber Mitte der Neunziger zurück und blieb bis zuletzt in Plattenläden und auf den Bühnen dieser Welt präsent. Bereits am 18. Oktober starb Robert Gordon 75-jährig an Leukämie.
Although Robert Gordon began his musical career in 1964 with the Confidentials, he first decided on a middle-class life at the age of 20. He married, served in the National Guard and opened his own clothing store. After his divorce in 1975, he was drawn back more to music, joining the Punk band Tuff Darts and starring alongside Debbie Harry in a Punk underground movie. For his first LP, Gordon enlisted guitar legend Link Wray, who thought the singer sounded "like early Elvis." The second record - FRESH FISH SPECIAL - featured Link Wray again in 1978 - as well as the original Jordanaires and Bruce Springsteen, who played keyboards in a song he composed. Robert Gordon, with his further records, became one of the most important names with rampant Rockabilly revival. From the mid-80s it became quieter around the musician, because he had to fight with alcohol and drug problems. However, he returned in the mid-nineties and remained present until the end in record stores and on the stages of this world. Already on October 18, Robert Gordon died at the age of 75 from leukemia.
