Dick Crippen, der am 18. Oktober 65 Jahre alt wird, war Gründungsmitglied und Bassist bei der damals kurzlebigen Post-Punk-Band Tenpole Tudor. Crippen schrieb an einer Reihe der Songs mit und produzierte deren LP-Debüt EDDIE, OLD BOB, DICK AND GARY (1981).
1977 gegründet, erlangten Tenpole Tudor Popularität, nachdem Sänger Edward Tudor-Pole auf dem Punk-Abgesang-Album THE GREAT ROCK‘N‘ROLL SWINDLE (1979) mitwirkte. Die von ihm gesungenen Songs “Who Killed Bambi?“ (UK #6) und “Rock Around The Clock“ (UK #21) waren B-Seiten von Sex-Pistols-Singles und firmierten bereits unter Tenpole Tudor. Außerdem wurde Edward Tudor-Pole, der im „Swindle“-Film 1980 auch eine Rolle spielte, zu jener Zeit als Johnny-Rotten-Nachfolger bei den Sex Pistols gehandelt.
Der Durchbruch kam 1981 mit einer Nummer sechs in den britischen Single-Charts für “Swords Of A Thousand Men“. im selben Jahr folgte noch “Wünderbar“ auf Rang 16, bevor sich die Gruppe 1982 auflöste.
Die Wiedergründung von Tenpole Tudor 1985 fand ohne Dick Crippen statt.
Crippen betreibt seit 1988 sein Panther Recording Studio, wo er Rock- und Punk-Acts produziert. Darüber hinaus ist er gegenwärtig Gitarrist und Produzent von The Weird Things (bisher zwei Alben).

Formed in 1977, Tenpole Tudor gained popularity after vocalist Edward Tudor-Pole appeared on the Punk sing-along album THE GREAT ROCK'N'ROLL SWINDLE (1979). The songs he sang, "Who Killed Bambi?" (UK #6) and "Rock Around The Clock" (UK #21) were B-sides of Sex Pistols singles and were already trading under Tenpole Tudor. In addition, Edward Tudor-Pole, who also played a role in the "Swindle" movie in 1980, was at that time traded as Johnny Rotten's successor in the Sex Pistols.
The breakthrough came in 1981 with a number six in the British singles charts for "Swords Of A Thousand Men." In the same year, "Wünderbar" followed at number 16 before the group disbanded in 1982.
Tenpole Tudor's 1985 re-formation took place without Dick Crippen.
Crippen has operated his Panther Recording Studio since 1988, producing Rock and Punk acts. He is also currently guitarist and producer of The Weird Things (two albums to date).
