Bevor Stewart Copeland 1977 mit Sänger Sting die Gruppe Police gründete, spielte er ein paar Monate bei Curved Air. Mit Police wurde der in den USA geborene Schlagzeuger allerdings Taktgeber für den sich gerade entwickelten New Wave. Die ersten drei Alben der Band waren stilprägend und einflussreich (OUTLANDOS D'AMOUR, 1978, REGATTA DE BLANC, 1979 und ZENYATTA MONDATTA, 1980). Die Zeit nach der ersten Police-Trennung war extrem produktiv: Stewart Copeland komponierte Film-Soundtracks, spielte auf den Platten von Musikerkollegen, startete Projekte unterschiedlicher musikalischer Ausrichtungen bis hin zum Jazz, veröffentlichte zwei Alben in Personalunion unter dem Pseudonym Klark Kent, war Mitglied der Supergroup Oysterhead und spielt jetzt bei Animal Logic und Gizmodrome. Stewart Copeland wird am 16. Juli 70 Jahre alt.
