Am 16. Januar 1957, also vor 65 Jahren, wurde der Liverpooler Cavern Club eröffnet. Als erster Live-Act trug sich die Merseysipi Jazz Band in die Annalen der Club-Historie ein. Bei der Entstehung und Verbreitung der Beat-Musik spielte der Nacht-Club in der Mathew Street eine maßgebliche Rolle. In ihrer Frühphase wurden zum Beispiel die Beatles (Foto) zu einer der Stamm-Formationen des Clubs. In den 60s spielte dort schließlich so ziemlich jeder, der Rang und Namen hatte. Am 1. März machte der Laden dicht, erfuhr mit der Zeit aber verschiedene Wiederbelebungen.

On March 1, the place closed down, but over time underwent various revivals.
