FÜR ZWEI JAHRE EIN WELTSTAR: GARY PUCKETT WURDE 80
Teilen
Only a fellow member of The Outcasts, Gary Puckett formed his own band, The Remarkables, in 1967, was discovered at a pub gig and became a world star as Gary Puckett & The Union Gap in 1968. That year the band released their single "Young Girl" which hit all relevant recording markets (UK #1, USA #2, AU #2, D #6). The follow-up single "Lady Willpower" was similarly successful (UK #5, USA #2, AU #4, D #13), and the third release of 1968, "Over You," also became an acceptable hit (UK #54, USA #7, AU #8). In 1969, the band appeared on the US singles chart twice more (#9 and #15) before disappearing from collective perception and becoming a 60s memory phenomenon. Beginning in 1971, Gary Puckett launched a solo career after the band's breakup, releasing albums at greater intervals but never rising above the status of an oldies attraction. The band with which he repeatedly performed was sometimes announced as Union Gap, but had nothing to do with the formation from the sixties. On October 17, Gary Puckett will be 80 years old.
