Contenders, New Breed und Glad waren die Stationen von Timothy B. Schmit, bevor er als Bassist und Sänger bei der 1968 gegründeten, stilprägenden Country-Rock-Formation Poco 1969 Randy Meisner ersetzte. Denselben Musiker ersetzte er 1977 auf "Hotel California"-Tour der Eagles. Danach wurde er zum festen Mitglied bei den US-amerikanischen Superstars. Das 1979 veröffentlichte Album THE LONG RUN gestaltete er als Songwriter und Lead-Vokalist mit. Er blieb bis zur Trennung 1980 und gehört seit der Wiedervereinigung 1994 wieder mit dazu. Seit 1984 veröffentlichte er sieben Studioalben, das jüngste erst 2022, DAY BY DAY. Zwischenzeitlich war er immer wieder mal als Gastmusiker oder Songwriter für andere tätig, tourte mit Kollegen oder diversen Band-Konstellationen.

He replaced the same musician on the Eagles' "Hotel California" tour in 1977. After that, he became a permanent member of the US superstars. He contributed to the album THE LONG RUN, released in 1979, as a songwriter and lead vocalist. He stayed until the breakup in 1980 and has been part of it again since the reunion in 1994. Since 1984 he has released seven studio albums, the most recent only in 2022, DAY BY DAY. In the meantime, he was active from time to time as a guest musician or songwriter for others, toured with colleagues or various band constellations.
