Als WALK ON 1994 erschien, spitzte die Rock-Welt die Ohren und waren die Fans außer Rand und Band. In den USA gingen die Verkaufszahlen einmal mehr in schwindelerregende Höhen, wohl aber konnte Tom Scholz auf den ersten Blick die hohen Erwartungen nicht ganz erfüllen. Dabei hatte er genau das getan, was das Naheliegendste war: ein klassisches Boston-Album abgeliefert, weshalb die LP in der Rückschau trotz kleiner Sound-Sünden an das unerreichte Dreigestirn andockte.
Auf CORPORATE AMERICA ließ Scholz 2002 neue Einflüsse zu und lieferte vielleicht auch deshalb „nur“ noch ein gutes AOR-Album ab. Das gleiche gilt für LIFE, LOVE & HOPE (2013).
Universal standards can‘t be applied to the music of Boston. With BOSTON in 1976, Tom Scholz not only created one of the most extraordinary records of the seventies, but also irrevocably defined how Boston would have to sound forever. There is no question that with the first three albums - 1978's DON'T LOOK BACK, 1986's THIRD STAGE - the band created a legacy beyond all criticism. However, the Boston project did not end there.
When WALK ON appeared in 1994, the Rock world pricked up its ears and fans were excited. In the U.S., the sales figures once again went to dizzying heights, but probably Tom Scholz could not quite meet the high expectations at first glance. In doing so, he had done exactly what was the most obvious thing to do: delivered a classic Boston album, which is why, in retrospect, the LP docked with the unrivaled triumvirate despite minor sound sins.
On CORPORATE AMERICA in 2002 Scholz allowed new influences and perhaps also for that reason delivered "only" another good AOR album. The same applies to LIFE, LOVE & HOPE (2013).
