BLUE ÖYSTER CULT STARTETEN ALS US-ANTWORT AUF BLACK SABBATH
- Sep 20, 2021
Blue Öyster Cult were considered the American answer to Black Sabbath, but musically they weren‘t comparable with the British. What they had in common was the occult image that surrounded them. And BÖC were more consistent in this respect. Not least responsible for the band concept was manager Sandy Pearlman, who already in the first half of the seventies liked to appear as the inventor of the (genre) Heavy Metal, because he had used the term metal several times in a Stones review in 1967. The genre term with "Heavy" and without any other epithet (Heavy Metal Rock for example) was coined by others a few years later - but that's another story. In the first decade BÖC cultivated the custom of closing a musical era with a live album. Here's the first one: BÖC's early black-and-white phase (cover artwork), in which their music evolved from Psychedelic Hard Rock to Heavy Metal, consisted of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT (1972), TYRANNY AND MUTATION (1973), SECRET TREATIES (1974 - unfortunately missing) - the finale was ON YOUR FEET OR ON YOUR KNEES (1975). Additionally there is the late 10''-live-document FOR THE HEAVY METAL KIDS AND THE YARDBIRDS - LIVE IN NY/'72. All incredible music - and a recommendation like crazy.
