Al Jardine gehörte 1961 zur Gründungsbesetzung der Beach Boys und war ein Jahr später der erste, der die Gruppe schon wieder verließ, um allerdings 1963 zurückzukehren. Bis heute wird er offiziell weiterhin als Beach-Boys-Mitglied gehandelt, beteiligt sich aber schon seit 1999 nicht mehr an Live-Auftritten - mit Ausnahme der Jubiläumstour zum 50-jährigen Bestehen der Band 2012. Jardine war die Lead-Stimme in einigen Songs (zum Beispiel "Help Me, Rhonda"), er spielte vornehmlich Bass und Rhythmusgitarre. Mit POSTCARDS FROM CALIFORNIA veröffentlichte er 2010 ein Solo-Album.
