In den Siebzigern machte sie Folk und Country Rock, sang Pop-Songs, war auf mehreren Leonhard-Cohen-Alben zu hören, arbeitete mit John Cale, veröffentlichte drei Solo-Alben. Ihre erste Nummer eins hatte sie in den USA aber erst 1982 im Duett mit Joe Cocker: "Up Where We Belong" (D#6). Eine weitere Top-Position folgte 1987 mit "(I've Had) Time Of My Life" (D#5) aus dem Kinofilm "Dirty Dancing". Wieder war es ein Duett. Diesmal mit Bill Medley. Jennifer Warnes, die am 3. März 75 Jahre alt wurde, ist bis heute aktiv.
