Mit dieser 1968 veröffentlichten pathetischen Hymne erreichte er in den deutschen Single-Charts Platz 2. Dabei war er eigentlich ein zur Gitarre singender Folkie, der es eher spartanisch mochte. Und während das deutsche Publikum den Schotten für sich entdeckte, hatte es sich in seiner Heimat, Großbritannien, schon wieder fast erledigt: Seine Singles waren dort seit 1965 fast alle in die Top 10 gekommen - und ausgerechnet dieser Atlantis-Trip kletterte nur mühsam bis auf die Nummer 23. Danach war Essig. In den USA, wo er mit “Sunshine Superman“ 1966 eine Nummer eins hatte, liefen die Alben bis 1976 noch ganz gut. Donovan ist bis heute aktiv. Am 10. Mai wird er 75 Jahre alt!
