The organizer of the legendary Woodstock festival in August 1969, Michael Lang, has died at 77 of a rare form of blood cancer. Lang's three-day event in Bethel in 1969 was among some 40 other festivals in the U.S., some with hundreds of thousands of visitors, but was the only one for which a documentary film was made and an album released. In the end, this resulted in cult status.
Michael Lang also worked later as a concert and festival organizer (including Woodstock re-runs in the nineties and 2000s), ran a record label and produced films.
