THE BUCKINGHAMS: "VERY BRITISH" FROM THE USA
Jens-Uwe BerndtTeilen
Absolute Empfehlung!
The Buckinghams belong to those bands from the sixties that remained a purely US phenomenon. Too bad for the European audience, to whom catchy songs like "Kind Of A Drag" (1966, USA#1), "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" (1967, #5), "Don't You Care" (1967, #6) or "Susan" (1967, #11) remained largely hidden. The Buckinghams had their most intense period between 1966 and 1970, when they released numerous singles and four albums. While the 45s were Soul-influenced good-mood Pop, the quintet was very diverse on its LPs. Sometimes they rocked hard and dipped into Psychedelic Pop realms. Since 1980, the Buckinghams are again present live in different formations, released studio and live albums. Absolute recommendation!
