SÜDAFRIKANERINNEN SCHAFFEN DURCHBRUCH MIT ERSTER SINGLE
Jens-Uwe BerndtTeilen
First single and a worldwide success: The South African women's band Clout covered “Substitute” by the Righteous Brothers and thus landed at 1 in their home country in 1977 and a little later found themselves in the same place in countries such as Holland, Sweden, France, New Zealand and Denmark again. In Germany they entered the top position in 1977 on October 23 and stayed there for three weeks. Curiosity on the side: Since the British Actors' Equity Association (Equity for short) was boycotting South African artists at the time, the BBC broadcast a recording of the single hit from the Dutch sister show on their own show "Top of the Pops".
