- Aug 24, 2021
Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has died at the age of 80. Because of a recent surgical procedure, his participation in the Stones' upcoming U.S. tour had already been canceled. He is died in a London hospital. Which kind the operation had been, was not announced so far. He himself had expressed himself confidently afterwards and had spoken of merely wanting to recover. Seventeen years ago he had already struggled with throat cancer, but was considered cured.
Charlie Watts was considered one of the cornerstones of the Stones. With his calm and level-headed manner, he always seemed like a counterpole to the crazy Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The drummer's playing was influenced by Jazz, which helped shape the sound of the Rolling Stones - he joined them in 1963.
