Der Tastenmann war 1967 zu der britischen Band gestoßen und hatte in deren Schaffen einen wesentlichen Anteil an den Bezügen zur klassischen Musik. So bestand er darauf, dass das Intro des größten Procol-Harum-Hits, “Whiter Shade Of Pale“ (1967), ihm zuzuschreiben sei. 2009 erstritt er sich dafür die Songwriter-Credits vor Gericht. Die Rock-Suite “In Held ‘Twas In I“ von SHINE ON BRIGHTLY (1968) schrieb er gemeinsam mit Band-Boss Gary Brooker. Mit diesem hatte er aber immer ein angespanntes Verhältnis, was dazu führte, dass Fisher 1969 ausstieg. Er kehrte 1991 zurück und blieb diesmal 13 Jahre - bis 2004. Fisher betätigte sich als Produzent (unter anderem Procol Harum, Robin Trower) und veröffentlichte zahlreiche Solo-Alben.
