KOMPONIST, PRODUZENT, MULTIINSTRUMENTALIST UND SÄNGER RICHARD CARPENTER WIRD 75
- Oct 16, 2021
Richard Carpenter, who turns 75 on October 15, enjoyed enormous success in the 1970s with his sister Karen. The Carpenters, formed in 1969, had three number one singles in the U.S., reached the top of the album charts with the compilation THE SINGLES: 1969-1973 (1973), and had four studio albums in the top ten. Richard Carpenter - always with his sister Karen by his side as a drummer - started out as a Jazz musician in the 60s. First with his Richard Carpenter Trio, he expanded the group and called it Spectrum, eventually operating as Summerchimes shortly before the Carpenters formed.
From the beginning, the Carpenters played sophisticated Pop that often flirted with Jazz elements. While Karen - one of the most unique voices in Pop history - excelled as a delicate beauty with her Jazz-influenced drumming, Richard provided the duo's musical foundation with his compositions and exceptional arrangements.
Richard Carpenter managed the group's musical estate after his sister's death in 1983 and released solo material.
