In 1971, Bert Ruiter became bassist for the Dutch band Focus, formed in 1969, which had just scored its second single hit in its homeland with the instrumental song "Hocus Pocus." Ruiter remained with the Progressive Rock formation until 1978, when he joined Earth & Fire, with whom he recorded the 1979 hit "Weekend" (#1 in Germany, Belgium, Holland and Switzerland, among other countries). With Earth & Fire Ruiter remained until the final breakup of the band in 1991. The musician was also active as a songwriter and producer. Bert Ruiter will be 75 years old on November 26.
