Roger McGuinn, der 1964 The Byrds mitgründete, wird am 13. Juli 80 Jahre alt. Der Gitarrist und Sänger hatte mit seiner Band einen maßgeblichen Anteil an der Entwicklung des Psychedelic Rock ("Eight Miles High", 1966) und an der Entstehung des Folk Rock (MR. TAMBOURINE MAN, 1965) sowie Country Rock (SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO, 1968). Nach der Trennung der Byrds startete McGuinn eine erfolgreiche Solokarriere und brachte zwischen 1979 und 1981 drei Alben mit Byrds-Kollegen heraus, die musikalisch besonders vom Country- und Folk-Rock geprägt waren. Sein jüngstes Album, MERRY CHRISTMAS, erschien 2020.

After the breakup of the Byrds, McGuinn embarked on a successful solo career, releasing three albums with Byrds colleagues between 1979 and 1981 that were particularly influenced musically by Country and Folk Rock.
