Burke Shelley - founder, bassist and singer of Welsh Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band Budgie - died in hospital on January 10. Shelley founded the group in 1967 and was part of it at every stage of its existence. The group first split in 1987, followed by two reunions: in 1995/96 and 1999 to 2010. Budgie belong to the first wave of Heavy Metal from the U.K. and are considered a major influence on numerous groups of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, which dominated in the early eighties. The last studio album of Budgie was released in 2006.
