Am 24. November ist Rich Fifield verstorben. Er war zwischen 1963 und 1967 Leadgitarrist der Surfband The Astronauts aus Boulder, Colorado, die in dieser Zeit neun Alben herausbrachte und in vier Filmen zu sehen war. 1967 wurde aus den Astronauts die Gruppe Sunshine Ward, die eine Single veröffentlichte und danach mit Psychedelic Pop unter Hardwater weitermachte. Die existierten bis 1969 und schafften es auf zwei Singles sowie ein Album. Fifield soll von den Originalmitgliedern der Astronauts der einzige geblieben sein, der über die Jahre weiter in Lokalen Bands musizierte. Er nahm auch an den zwei Réunions Teil, die den Astronauts in den Achtzigern noch ein paar Konzerte bescherten.

He was the lead guitarist for the Boulder, Colorado Surf band The Astronauts between 1963 and 1967, releasing nine albums and appearing in four films during that time. In 1967, the Astronauts became the group Sunshine Ward, which released a single and then continued with Psychedelic Pop under Hardwater. They existed until 1969 and made it to two singles as well as an album. Fifield is said to be the only one of the original members of the Astronauts who continued to play in local bands over the years.
